Wow! Did I ever get a surprise today and I am one
that is not easily surprised. I have been working with SQL Server
2000's Profiler application for some years and I can do it in my sleep
but only recently did I have the chance to work in-depth with SQL
Server 2005's Profiler. My first thought was "Hey, this will be
a simple change and MS just added a few new features...no problem!
Boy was I wrong, what a change it is--well the
interface that is. The same basic concepts still holds but the
interface has changed a bit. So I figured since I have to train my
teams, I just as well write about it and post it here a little later.
This will also include another article on the Database Engine Tuning
Advisor (which by the way also got a makeover).
Since we are on the topic of articles, I found some interesting
things for another article. Currently we are helping many companies
upgrade from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. At one, we are converting over 30
SQL Servers. Well I don't know about you, but I am not going to
manually install SQL that many times. I'm crazy but not stupid. If
you remember SQL 2000 had an ISS file, which is an unattended
installation file that the install/setup program would create for you.
But some of that functionality has been removed in 2005...or has it. I
will show you how I created my install template in another article.
